Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have announced financial aid of Rs 25 lakh for the families of each of the 11 fans who lost their lives in the stampede outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on 4 June 2025. The announcement was made on Saturday through the franchise's official accounts on X and Instagram, under their newly launched social initiative, RCB Cares.
The tragedy, which happened during RCB's title celebrations in Bengaluru, remains one of the darkest moments in the city's sporting history. Thousands of jubilant supporters had gathered outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium less than 24 hours after RCB clinched their maiden IPL title with a victory over Punjab Kings in the final in Ahmedabad. But the celebrations turned into chaos as the uncontrolled surge of fans towards the stadium gates left 11 dead and more than 50 others injured.
Eighty-six days on, RCB have come forward with a more substantial compensation package. In an emotional statement, the franchise acknowledged the magnitude of the tragedy and expressed solidarity with the grieving families.
