Valentin Vacherot ruises into quarterfinals

Defending champion Valentin Vacherot sailed into the quarterfinals of the Challenger tennis tournament in Pune on Wednesday.

Defending champion Valentin Vacherot of Monaco eased past qualifier Masamichi Imamura of Japan 6-2, 6-3 in the second round of the Pune Metropolitan $160,000 Maha Open Challenger tennis tournament at the Balewadi Stadium on Wednesday.

In the quarterfinals, Vacherot will play eighth seed Alexis Galarneau of Canada.

In doubles, there was a lot of success for the Indian players in the top half of the draw, while three Indian teams in the bottom half of the draw could not find their way forward.

Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan beat Michael Geerts and Billy Harris 6-0, 6-4 to set up a quarterfinal against top seeds Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth.

Niki Poonacha in partnership with Courtney Lock, the finalists of the Delhi Challenger last week, set up a quarterfinal against third seeds Blake Ellis and Tristan Schoolkate of Australia.
