The Indian women's hockey team lost 1-4 to China in the Asia Cup final, missing their chance for direct qualification to next year's World Cup. Despite India's early lead through Navneet Kaur's penalty corner conversion, China secured their victory with goals from Zixia Ou, Hong Li, Meirong Zou, and Jiaqi Zhong.India made a strong start by scoring within the first 39 seconds through a penalty corner, with Navneet Kaur successfully converting the opportunity.China responded with back-to-back penalty corners three minutes later, but India's defence held firm. The Chinese team intensified their offensive play, continuously attacking the Indian half. The Chinese team maintained pressure on the Indian defence, earning additional penalty corners in the second quarter. Despite creating multiple opportunities and keeping possession near the Indian circle, they initially struggled to score. China's persistence paid off when Zixia Ou converted a penalty corner in the 21st minute, equalising the score. This boost in momentum led to increased pressure from China, though both teams entered halftime with the score tied at 1-1. The first half saw China dominating the game. After the break, India adopted a more aggressive approach but struggled to penetrate the strong Chinese defence.
China's continued attacks resulted in success when Hong Li scored a field goal from a counter-attack in the third quarter. India, ranked ninth globally, pushed hard for an equaliser in the final quarter but couldn't break through. China secured their victory with two quick goals. Meirong Zou scored a field goal in the 51st minute, followed by Jiaqi Zhong's field goal two minutes later. This victory marked China's third Asia Cup title, following their previous wins in Hong Kong (1989) and Bangkok (2009). The win also secured their spot in the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Belgium and the Netherlands. India's forward line, including Mumtaz Khan, Lalremsiami, and Sunelita Toppo, couldn't replicate their earlier tournament performances in the final match.Following this result, India will need to compete in the World Cup Qualifiers to secure their place in the upcoming global tournament.
