The second day of the World Athletics Championships brings out exciting action on Sunday, September 14. If you're not interested in watching the India-Pakistan match in the aftermath of cross-border tensions, don’t worry — you can watch some of the top Indian athletes at the World Championships instead.
It’s going to be an exciting day in Tokyo, with the fastest sprinters in the world taking on each other in the showpiece 100m event. The 100m sprint, which has seen dramatic results in the last one and a half years, will once again brace for a photo finish.
If the Paris Olympics 2024 and the Diamond League Final 2025 are anything to go by, there won't be much separating the top five runners in the world.
While the 100m final is the last event of the day, the evening session will keep you engaged with India's Sarvesh Anil Kushare and Gulveer Singh, both participating in their individual events.
Sarvesh Kushare will compete in the men’s high jump qualification, which starts at 3:10 PM IST. He recently won the Inter-State Championships with a best jump of 2.24m. He’ll hope to better his personal best, which is just 0.03m higher than his winning jump in India.
Gulveer Singh, on the other hand, is India’s fastest runner in the 3000m, 5000m, and 10,000m categories. On Sunday, he runs in the final of the men’s 10k event. Ranked 28th in the world, a podium finish is unlikely, but he’ll aim to better his personal best in Tokyo today.
Sarvesh Kushare: 3:10 PM IST
Gulveer Singh: 6:00 PM IST

Sunday started with a dramatic final in the women’s marathon. Kenya’s Peres Jepchirchir beat Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa by just 0.02 seconds to win the event. Peres and Tigst traded the top spot in the final 400m multiple times in a show of epic strength.
The morning session also featured:
Heats of men’s 1500m
Women’s hammer throw qualification
Heats for women’s 100m hurdles
Here is the list of the events for the evening session on Sunday.
Let’s get back to the most anticipated event of the day — the men’s 100m final. Before the final, the athletes will compete in the semi-finals at 5:15 PM IST. There are three heats. The top two athletes from each heat, and the next two fastest overall, will qualify for the final.
